Pedestal – the club night in Vauxhall, London, where Goddesses roam among their lowly worshippers – is back this Thursday! Upcoming features include: Large team of House Slaves to serve and pamper female guests; Tantric massage service for women; a massive dungeon featuring at least fifteen pieces of fabulous kit, including trample-cage, grope-box and the new masochist-frame; music from DJ Pops and Acid Jo; free face/body painting, artist provided by the club – or paint each other; luxury canapés served by male slaves; `Maitre D’ service – men have the option of going on the ‘menu’, to be selected by visiting women if they desire – ask for Porphyro.

As ever, I’ll be a House Mistress, so I encourage all you ladies and gents to come and say hello if you’re there. Click here for the Club Pedestal website.

Getting Shirty

This week, Facebook has erupted in a xenophobic chorus of BLOCK-CAPITAL STATUS UPDATES. Thousands have copied and pasted a rumour that police are banning England football shirts and flags from pubs and clubs during the World Cup so as not to “upset immigrants”. It’s an urban myth that has spread at alarming speed.

What actually happened was that police in Croydon advised local establishments that taking steps such as introducing a dress code and serving drinks in plastic glasses would help keep violence out of their premises. This was also ages ago, and had nothing to do with the England flag, immigrants, turbans or hijabs, but the paranoid ignorami have taken the opportunity to work themselves up into a masturbatory fever over it.

It’s a familiar story. Nobody has banned “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, Brussels has never banned bent bananas, and gay feminist gypsy Muslims haven’t ever banned Christmas and replaced it with Winterval. And no, much to the dismay of the British tabloids, the white middle classes are *still* not an oppressed minority. However, people will believe any old shit to convince themselves that their irrational fears and prejudices are somehow justified.

Sex, Drugs and Greek Tragedy

Having spent a rather exciting evening at a production of Oscar Wilde’s Salome, I found myself craving more provocative, violent and knee-tremblingly good theatre. On my return home, I hit the internet. In an act of almost instant serendipity, the gods, fate or Richard Dawkins (feel free to delete as appropriate to your own belief system) promptly alerted me to this article from Cherwell.org:

“Oxford Catholics have voiced their concern after it was revealed that tickets for the upcoming play ‘Antigone’ will include a discount on sex toys and pornography from ‘The Private Shop’ on Cowley Road. Antigone is due to be performed this Sunday evening at The Cellar, which has never hosted play productions before. There are rumours that drugs will also be circulating during performances, although director Jess Edwards stressed that the production team will be upholding the Cellar’s strict drugs policy at all times. Edwards said that the prospect of an S&M show in Oxford had been met with excitement by students...

The performance is billed as ‘the closest a party can get to a play’ with a live DJ, strobe lighting and shot girls. The actors will move amongst audience members. The Oxford version of Antigone describes itself as a ‘highly sexualised production with a sadomasochism costume theme’. The production team claim that their version of the play is a visual way to bring out the excess of Greek tragedy, frightening and relevant to a modern audience.”
