Skinheads, Fighters, Punks & Prisoners

If you like to see images of captive, muscle-bound men wearing expressions of passion, pain and peril, then there’s a good chance you’ll also like the work of artist Alexis Lekat. Here’s a nugget from an interview with the San Francisco Bay Times on this month’s exhibition:

‘…His inspiration comes from the male body. His influence is 16th century Italian Baroque artist, Caravaggio and his fleshly – often violent – art. “He was an iconoclast who played with light and shadows,” Lekat elaborates. He says he wants people to feel a bit uncomfortable with his work, while still admitting they like what they see. “I’ve never thought my art was pornographic; but it is disturbing,” he says…’

There are a few examples of his work below, but if you’d like to see more (including all the willies I’ve cropped out of these ones) go to AlexisLekat.net. I would, however, advise anyone with an aversion to hyperactive techno music to mute their speakers before clicking the link.
